Girls Weekend – Chicago

Back in September my girlfriends, from college (Go Knights), and I went to Chicago for a girls trip. We haven’t been on one in forever due to bachelorette parties, weddings, etc. It was the perfect weekend spent together, enjoying great food, shopping and lots of laughs. I would highly recommend a girls trip to Chicago! Here is our itinerary…

Friday
Breakfast @ The Bagelers Coffeehouse – great spot to get dropped off at and walk to Wrigleyville.
Cubs Game! – Before the game, we went to Murphy’s Bleachers for a few beers before heading into the game. The game was so much fun, if you happen to be in town during MLB season and the Cubs have a home game, make it a point to go. After the game we explored the area and ended up at Sluggers.

Dinner @ Pequads Pizza – I hate to say this, but I wasn’t that impressed with the pizza. I’m not sure if I just had really high hopes, they were having an off night, or the many beers throughout the day had an impact, but I was expecting to be blown away. It was good, don’t get me wrong, and I will definitely give it another shot next time I am in town, but I was a bit disappointed.

Saturday
Breakfast @ Stan’s Donuts & Coffee – when in Chicago, you have to get at least 1 donut from Stan’s!
Sightseeing and Shopping – We walked from the Bean to the West Loop and shopped around until lunch.
Lunch @ Au Cheval – We immediately put our names in when they opened/when we arrived to the West Loop so we could eat at a decent hour, highly recommend doing that because they do not take reservations. If you do anything on your trip to Chicago – go to Au Cheval! The burger is as phenomenal as everyone says and please please please order the General Jane’s Honey-Fried Chicken (pic below), you’ll thank me later.

Architecture River Tour – Some of the girls went on the tour, while the rest of us went to the room to start getting ready for dinner. I did this tour on a previous girls trip to Chicago and loved it, so I opted out this time, but it is really great and I would recommend it.
Dinner @ RPM Italian – I’ve been here once before and absolutely loved it, however, this time was not the same. A lot of our food was cold and the service was just okay. I really hate to say negative things about such a nice restaurant, but the lack of consistency makes it difficult to give a positive review.

Sunday
Brunch @ Aba – Quite possibly one of my favorite brunches ever. I would go back here in a heartbeat for any meal! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and such a vibe. Our favorite items were the short rib hummus, whipped feta, and the grilled chicken kabab.

Explored until airport – Some of the girls left for their flight right after brunch, while the rest of us hung out and explored the west loop to watch the first Sunday football games of the season. The best spot we found was Theory in River North, great food and beer!
