Tour de Texas – Houston (36 hours)
We recently took a very quick and last minute trip to Houston for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four Championship Game a few weeks ago. It wasn’t quite long enough to experience the city the way I would have preferred, but we will definitely be going back soon 🙂 Here is a short itinerary of the trip.
Day 1
Drove from Dallas to Houston
We stopped in Huntsville, TX to visit the Texas Prison Museum (quite the experience) and had lunch at Mr. Hamburger – a great spot along the way for a greasy, delicious cheeseburger. Mr. Hamburger is right across the street from the Huntsville Prison, it is apparently where most inmates either ask for their last meal to be from or where their first meal out of prison is…it was an interesting view for lunch to say the least…
Checked into our hotel – The Chifley – highly recommend
Enjoyed the Capital One Jamfest at Discovery Green Park – got to see a few songs by Little Big Town and Keith Urban and explore all of the fun events going on.
Enjoyed some brews at 8th Wonder Brewery
Finished the night with sushi at Kata Robata – I cannot stress this enough…order the Warm Blueberry Cake for dessert, it was heavenly and one of the best desserts I have ever had
Day 2
Unfortunately it was Monday and we had to work, so the day was spent mostly in the hotel, but we had a fantastic take-out lunch from Local Foods – next time we visit I would love to have lunch inside, it was the cutest spot with a ton of wine for purchase
Game Time! – We had VIP tickets to eat and drink at the pre-game – it was awesome, there were tons of games, giveaways, a variety of small plates and plenty of drinks to choose from. The game was at NRG Stadium and we had some of the best seats in the house!
Day 3
Worked at the hotel and drove back to Dallas
Needless to say, there is still a ton left to explore in Houston (especially food-wise) and we will be back soon! XO
